about me

Hi. I am Ranhee Joo, a designer and mom-to-be. I love to design cute, modern and fun things. I do this mostly as my full time job at Skip Hop but i also like to sew and knit as hobbies. Everything starts from a little doodle of mine and it's sometimes amazing to see what it becomes. so I decided to start a blog to keep a record of my doodles and creation.

Somebody at work told me that one of our customers told her about reusing Skip Hop changing pad as an ipad cover. I thought it was a brilliant idea so i decided to make one for myself. It really took 3 minutes to make. The pad was slightly bigger than my ipad so i added a little pocket for USB cord.

Storm King Art Center was more amzing than I imagined. Experiencing these sculptures in its beautiful nature was so much more powerful than seeing them in photographs. This place made me feel like I was in a different planet. Abstract sculptures and architectures really triggered my creative imagination go wild! I was very inspired by its scale, use of material in each piece and relationship each piece created with its surrounding. I would definitely go back in fall or winter season to see how everything changes with different environment.

My least favorite is when i have to stitch up knitted seams. I knitted this elephant awhile back (even before i was conceived) and never finished it. I thought it was time to wrap it up. Even though it's fully stuffed, it's super soft because this wool is super stretchy. This will be a perfect cuddly toy for my newborn.

I got all furnitures so far. Love my Oeuf Sparrow dresser and crib! On left is Ikea Expedit bookshelf which i'm planning on using for changing table instead of Oeuf dresser because there's more top surface where i can have a diaper caddy. Recliner is in the livingroom for now until baby is born. We bought black leather recliner to match our livingroom so we can make the most use out of it later on. I'm going to have to make a slip cover to match the nursery. The room is looking very lonely without any decor element so my next step is to brainstorm how to make this room cozy and cuddly... warm color curtains and colorful/cute knitted mobile would be really cute.

first sweater 6.7.11

sweater.jpg

Finally finished my boy's sweater after 4 months of struggle. I never knew how many components and work goes into making a sweater. it started with back piece, then right front, left front, right sleeve, left sleeve, then neck trim, right trim, left trim and finally sewing pieces together. I will never take a handknit sweater for granted.

My dining table was looking very lonely in a new location we just moved in. I thought placemats would be a nice addition so I decided to sew up placemats this weekend. I think these definitely added some warmth. I'm going to have to make one for my baby soon as well.

my perfect nursery 5.23.11

I always thought that the nursery will need a theme to make it look complete but after coming across this nursery photo, I realized it's perfectly okay not to be tied to a theme. This cozy naturely feel is exactly what i want for my boy.

I'm not a huge fan of colored wall and i like to keep the wall white like this. This room is so simple and basic, yet so perfect...
